This was our fourth visit to Nishimuraya Honkan, and just like our previous stays, we went during Matsuba-gani (Red Snow Crab) season, which runs from November 6 to March 20. This was also our fourth different room - this time, we went for …
An absolutely perfect inn with wonderful food and atmosphere. Their public baths for hotel guests only are excellent. ||Our dinners were served in the restaurant next door. We loved eating here. The service was so friendly and I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed the beef and crab and other seasonal dishes.
I had high hopes for staying in a Relais & Chateaux property. I was disappointed. After staying in so many wonderful ryokans in Western Honshu, I found that this ryokan was old and had not been updated in many years. The in suite hot tub …
Hard to imagine a better place to stay in Kinosaki. The Kaiseki crab meal, while very long, was a once in a lifetime experience. The hotel was walkable to all of the towns onsens as well and did a great job of providing the tradition ryokan experience with some of the conveniences of a modern hotel. The staff was perfect and provided us with all of the traditional japanese clothing for our stay. They even took the extra step to provide us with a honeymoon gift and personalized welcome. Would highly recommend to the next couple looking to stay here.
You get used to leaving your shoes at the door. We loved the room with our private onsen in the garden. Used it morning and night. So relaxing to hear that water on the rocks. We stayed 2 nights. Loved the dinners in the room. They …
We loved Nishimuraya Honkan! The staff is so kind and the hotel is beautiful. They were able to accommodate all of our dietary restrictions for meals and the food was delicious. We enjoyed our stay!
We stayed in the hatsune room for 3 nights in October 2023, which unfortunately was the most disappointing accommodation in our 3 week trip to Japan. Being a relaix and chateaux hotel we expected the accomodation to be exceptional, but unfortunately the room was very rundown and tired. The room was very traditional, which was exactly what we were after, but unfortunately was in great need of refurbishing.
We had ordered a particular breakfast prior to check in, and when we arrived we were advised this had not been noted and that this was not available, so we had to go for alternative.
We ordered the dinner one evening; and again had specified things we could not eat. Our dinner arrived and included items we had requested we could not eat. Normally we would be fine to leave these, but at AU$180 a head we were unable to eat 2 of the 8 dishes and were left dissatisfied.
In general the service was great; the front desk staff helped us so much and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast. The hotel itself was beautiful, It’s just such a shame that the rooms let it down and that pre-ordered requests (which the hotel ask for) were not listened to.
The Nishimuraya Honkan is a must-visit hot spring ryokan. The rooms are spacious and there's a beautiful traditional-style garden. I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms, which was very clean and modern. During our stay, we had a delicious Tajima beef dinner served in the room, followed by a plentiful breakfast. It was a truly relaxing experience for both body and mind.
